Dyslexia Awareness Week Scotland - Challenges The Myths That Still Surround Dyslexia
Traditional myths are full of heroes overcoming obstacles, using special tools to aid success. Just like the Legend of King Arthur and Excalibur - what others thought impossible, Young Arthur achieved with the right tool. The sword symbolises what others assume can't be achieved, and Excalibur serves as a symbol of unlocking true potential.
Assistive Technology (AT) as a tool can help to replace barriers with opportunities and myths with facts, and with AT, what once looked impossible becomes possible. From early years through school, college, university, and apprenticeships, into the workplace and beyond, assistive technology can bring dyslexic strengths to life.
At Aventido, we are proud to provide assistive technology that transforms challenges into opportunities — supporting learners and professionals at every step of their journey:
Neuralign: helps children build literacy foundations, helping students read an average of 50% more words in 10 weeks.
Cantoo Scribe: Teachers and SENCOs can use Cantoo Scribe to adapt text, support spelling and grammar, and help pupils stay focused.
TextAid: turns written text into spoken words across books, websites, and documents, making reading accessible, supporting independent learning and productivity.
Scanmaker Pen: instantly scans printed text into digital or audio form, enabling faster, more independent study, research, and professional work.
Pro-Study/Pro-Workspace: from school through to the workplace turns research, references, and complex information into organised, visual topic folders.
MindMeister: helps with planning, organisation, and big-picture thinking for essays, projects, and professional tasks.
MeisterTask: offers a visual task management system that helps break down projects, track deadlines, and aid collaboration.
Lightkey: provides intelligent text prediction, real-time spelling and grammar support, and context-aware suggestions to enable more confident writing.
Dragon: enables faster, more confident writing and communication by converting speech to text.
ivvi Notes: transforms audio notes into structured mind maps.
dBud: reduce background noise and sensory distractions.
Lernabl: breaks tasks into clear, manageable steps, helping to reduce overwhelm, improve organisation, and build confidence in completing assignments, projects, and everyday tasks.
